Hi Thunder Family!
This e-mail will cover the following topics:
Interested in coaching football?
Football practices (and what your athlete needs)
A quick note about tickets to the August 31st Green Bay Packers game
Know a family who missed the registration deadline? Good news!
Registration notes - Your athlete might NOT be fully registered!
We need your help! If you are interested in coaching football, please see me after practice tonight (or call or e-mail me). We do not allow non-trained/approved parents to coach or be on the field during our practices, but we will gladly work with you to get you into a coaching position. Don't worry if you aren't experienced or think you don't know enough about the game--we will train and certify you! Men and women are encouraged to coach in our program, so please consider volunteering to help us give the kiddos something special this season.
We will have practice tonight and tomorrow night from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. There are some athletes who have Wednesday church/catechism obligations and may need to leave practice a little bit before 7 p.m. tonight. That's totally fine! God comes first, always.
We will practice Monday and Tuesday next week from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday is the Green Bay Packers game event, so we will not be having practice that day.
I will send out more detailed e-mail soon about the practice schedule and game schedule for the rest of the season, but for now it will be Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The official calendar is located on our website: pioneerthunder.com We will notify everyone via e-mail if we ever make significant schedule changes on the calendar.
Football players should wear comfortable athletic apparel to practices, including non-metal cleats. Cleats are not mandatory, but they are recommended. If you would like to check our bin of donated cleats, please either check with a coach after practice or feel free to send me an e-mail directly with your child's shoe size (I'll check and let you know if we have any available in that size).
Shorts without pockets are preferred for practices (and will be mandatory for games). This is an NFL FLAG rule and it makes sense: Pockets may accidentally get hooked when a player's flag is getting pulled--this may result in the player's shorts unintentionally getting pulled partially down. Black shorts are preferred to help create a uniform look across the program.
We will supply mouth guards to every player, but it will be your responsibility to ensure that they are properly fitted at home. Mouth guards will become mandatory at next Tuesday's practice. You may purchase your own mouth guard--they even make some that do not require a difficult boiling/fitting process!
Hydration is vital to the health and safety of our athletes. We provide water at all practices and games, but athletes may bring their own if they wish. To enhance the team concept and atmosphere, we have the players drink water as a group--we prefer that they stick together during water breaks.
The Green Bay Packers sent us approximately 265 tickets to the August 31st night game at Lambeau Field against the L.A. Rams! I plan on getting out an e-mail with a sign-up form sometime tomorrow. The e-mail will have all the info you could possibly want to know about the game and how we distribute tickets, so please stay tuned! For those of you who might want extra tickets, read tomorrow's e-mail carefully for details on how to submit such a request.
If you know of a family who missed the registration deadline, please let them know that we are keeping registration open for just a few more days, but that they shouldn't wait any longer to get signed up! In order to participate, their child must be fully registered AND have a current sports physical submitted before Monday's practice. Feel free to give them my contact info if they have any questions or concerns.
If you already signed your child up to play football with us this year, please be sure that you also completed the very short online registration that is required by NFL FLAG. This applies to everyone participating this year, even if you are a returning Pioneer Thunder athlete. Many of you are not on the official NFL FLAG list, but you can get that taken care of in five minutes by visiting this link: www.nflflag.com/form/player
Thank you all for your patience and understanding; I'm very sorry for the unacceptable delay in communicating with all of you, and I promise to be better and more timely with getting you information in the future.
Now, let's have some fun!
